''Tangled'' is a Disney media franchise started by the 2010 American animated feature Tangled, which was directed by Nathan Greno and Byron Howard from a screenplay by Dan Fogelman and produced by Roy Conli, with songs by Alan Menken and Glenn Slater. Walt Disney Animation Studios' chief creative officer John Lasseter served as the film's executive producer. The original film was inspired by the German fairy tale "Rapunzel" in the collection of folk tales published by the Brothers Grimm. Since the film's release in November 2010, the franchise has been expanded. To date, the franchise includes various Disney theme park attractions, merchandise, a video game, books, an stage musical, a short animated film, and an upcoming animated series. The franchise concerns a young girl (Rapunzel) with magical youth-enabling hair being trapped in a tower by Mother Gothel due to her desire to remain youthful.
